2 piece bars the way forward?
« on: November 05, 2010, 12:52:11 PM »

doesn't affect me much - people can use whatever they like, long or short widths -WHATEVER!

i'm pretty much a die-hard fan of 'v' shaped combo bars, cut as wide as my shoulders.

i used to slam my knees (painfully) on the bends at the stemgrip area of 2/4/6/8-pc bars, and i think it's gonna be worst for me if i run them 2-pc'ers on my short top tube frames.

just ride whatever suits your riding style/buget @the moment, don't be a trend whore, it's not called freestyle fo'nuthing...

It seems to me that people don't need skinny little bars as much anymore because of the new style of riding. You're still gonna hit your knees, but not as often as when you were trying to do all sorts of weird scuffing tricks with your feet in every imaginable position.
It truly is a romance of many dimensions, isn't it?

lower production cost...?

also it goes with the new straight tubed frames. people are thinking:
i dont need special bends and welded up parts to do my tricks. straight-up bmx works fine!

ha maybe thats just the way i see it!

It's called freestyle because there are no set rules at contests on what kinda tricks you have to present to the judges, so you're pretty much free to do whatever trick/combo you want (that being said, freestyle isn't a discipline, flatland is!). It has absolutely nothing to do with what kinda clothes you wear or what bike setup you rock!

Altho you're free to do whatever trick/combo you want, you should refrain from doing surfers, bar rides, cherry pickers (even tho Martin Aparijo would be proud of you ;D) etc. during your run for obvious reasons (that's kind of an unwritten law). But you can do those tricks during practice/open practice no problem.

Hope this helps. -_-

Remember, grammar is the difference between "I helped my uncle Jack off a horse", and "I helped my uncle jack off a horse".

I just started getting into flatland stuff about 3 days ago and suck so far, I blame my sh*tty bike and lack of practice.

I'm glad to see less wacky design. Nothing wrong with simple bikes.

Thank you.

By the way...two piece bars are the way backwards.  Like 1980's backwards.   I mean that in a good way.   9 inch rise, 28 wide...sounds familiar.   Also, let's hope with Matthias riding a 20.5 these days, and still killing it in flatland, people will realize you don't need these highly specialized parts/bikes/frames to kill it.

Yes.  GT Performer bars...9 inch rise, 28 wide.  Sounds an awfully lot like the bars everyone is running these days.

As long as the old dyno bars don't make a come back.  YUCK
