Why did you go brakeless?
« on: May 06, 2010, 11:47:58 PM »
kinda interesting to see different reasons for this choice.

I think mine would be the odd one, I have an inflammation in my left elbow and I haven't ridden for about 7 months.

I told the doctor about riding and he claims that it could have been because of the repetitive motion of pulling the brake while holding onto the bars tightly, so the brake is coming off so I won't get tempted....

sounds kinda ridiculous  ;D

what about you?

you have a medical condition that forces you to be brakeless  ^_^ thats awsome. well I'm too lazy to buy a gyro and true my back wheel so i dont run a back brake. I used to ride a straight cable AKira style  -_-, but then i learned how to do barspins in the middle of turbine wheelies.

i myself ride with brakes ever since 2001 when started flatland..

but lately i took my brakes off just last week.. because of a very small reason..

"THE OKINAWA BOYS OF JAPAN VIDEO"  ;D ;D ;D

sound silly but its true.. ahahah coz i saw them all brake-less and all their tricks on brake-less was kind of dialled and very nice to look at..

my riding now with brakeless is kind of new to me.. but i didn't regret to took-off my brakes after all this years.. because i have a lot of fun with my new set-up..

and that is all the reason why i ride.. "FOR FUN"

cheers!!!!!

Cos brakes don't work well on my rim.

I'm super picky.

I barely use them.

Can't afford decent ones.

And I'm full throttle bitches.  Brap Brap!

Well when i started flatland... I had the chance to ride with jesse puente a lot and he's the one that opened the door and always told me to ride brakeless.  So ive been riding brakeless every since =)

I ride brakeless because I never used my brakes, simple as that.  Plus, i  don't bruise my knees on my gyro anymore -_-

my fingers / hands have been broken so many times that I only have full death grip with them now.   it is psyicly impossible for me to feather a brake lever - either no brake or full on complete lock up of the brake.

so since im pretty good at foot jam tricks - I choose no brake at all - and it is also cleaner on the bike - less stuff to rattle around and make clanky / jingly noise on the bike.
and  I can run xxl grips down the bars - and i never have to worry about cutting my fingers up on the levers either.....

I think that sums it up pretty much.

i was riding brakeless 2 years ago.
i wanted to learn whiplashes and i always wanted to use the brake.
then i tried to do these without brakes and it was easier to me after few days.
after that i wanted to take them on the bike again but the feeling in tricks - the flow - catched me.....until now.

I usually catch a finger on the brake lever and bend it in weird and painful ways lol sad but true.

my brake lug was loose so i would have to tighten my brake every 10 min..  because it should have been loctited..  so because i was lazy and didn't buy loctite i ended up taking them off the front and then the back cause you just can't do that in flatland because of the rules..  ;D
