I'm probably wrong but I'd go with an 18". For instance this one http://www.shopsidewalldistro.com/p-50-hb-08-18-mantra-frame.aspx

Some one has actually used that one with 20" wheels and said it worked and some grown people ride 18" so maybe is a good frame for awhile?

17.7 Ares Garuda with 18" forks and wheels, 145mm crankset, 18-9 drivetrain. All over 1000.00 by the end of it all. OR you can try to dig up the old 16" Ares Ashura

That Mantra frame looks like a great option. He could ride that for years.

17.7 garuda is no longer in production, and paying $200-300 for a good condition, second-hand frame is not my idea of a good buy.

17.9 st.martins diamond frame + mini(racing) parts or a true zero, zero set up;

18'' hoffman's completes - no resale value and your kid's gonna outgrow it in a blink of an eye though

This is my sons. Its an 18.6''tt KGB. He's had this since he was 11 or even 10 1/2, and he's now 13. I had the seat lower and bars back making the setup small. As he grows into it, I adjust the seat and bars accordingly to his preference. It has 145mm cranks, 25/10 gear ratio and lightish sort of parts so he can muscle it around a bit. The biggest problem with cheap bikes for kids is they weigh more than the kid does. That was one of the reasons I gave him my old frame and bought him light parts.

This was was stepped into for giggles.  ;D

^^^^i see a future flatland world champion^^^^ ^_^

props to you! and the flat-dads & moms on global-flat, wish i had family which were supportive of my riding ... it took me another a year and a half of saving to setup my first proper bike (standard shorty) after purchasing the frame.
