Don't know if someone's already mentioned this, but you'll need to practice, practice, and practice! Practice makes a flatlander! Good luck, and don't forget to practice! ;)

Take it slow, literally. A walking pace is good for most tricks.

Look for progress in any form ("I couldn't half hydrant in to forkglides but now I can at least spin in and hold one for a second")

Just have fun. Treat your riding time as a break from the world, that way you won't start getting stressed over it. And, if you do start getting heated, just take a water break and sit on your bike and zone out for a bit.

And obviously.... practice x 1000000

The best technique is to be concetrated, when you ride you should not think nothing else but the tricks.
you must be focused.
try to understand what you did wrong on your previous try and fix it on the next one.
try different techniques and lot of basic tricks to help you in the future.

When I feel like what Im trying I'll never be able to do, I like to think of all the people in the world who have done this before me.  They practiced long and hard, fell tons and yet got through it, so why can't I?

Oh and don't forget to practice.

You have the perfect attitude towards flatland. Everyone should think the same way as you. Seriously, this is how you do it folks.

And then after you do it, think of all the people that didn't practice long and hard, and didn't fall alot, and still can't do it.  ;D
