Go Devils! - Riders wanted to perform at Arizona State University by Morgan
Do you live in or near Phoenix, Arizona?  Are you looking for an opportunity to expose your riding skills?  This could be your chance!

Last week we received an email from Drew Ossakow from Arizona State University.  Drew assists in the athletic marketing department for ASU, and is looking for Flatland riders to perform at upcoming ASU Sun Devils basketball games between November 14 this year and March 7 next year.  Performances should run between 4-6 minutes, and will be at half-time during the games.

This is a great opportunity for riders looking to gain exposure and media interest, and also to perform in front of large crowds.  It’s also a great way to show the world what Flatland is and to inspire! Do you feel up to the challenge?  Are you ready to dazzle the world with your riding skills and flair?  Contact Drew at ASU to find out more, and make your mark in Flatland history!

UPDATE! Drew has found a rider for the games, and would like to thank all of the riders who contacted him.  Proof positive that we have plenty of talented riders out there, who want to make their mark?  You betcha!

He was very pleased to tell us that: "The response I have received is amazing... Thank you again for your help and Go Devils!"

Richard Aguayo´s Birthday Jam by Bill Freeman by Sam
A new addition to the Southern California Flatland Jams has begun. The day was a celebration of both Flatland, and of course Richard’s Birthday. How could we possibly forget a birthday? We were given not only a great day of sun, while a bit warm it was still very nice. Also, it was a chance to hit up Richard’s local spot as well. It was a nice little group gathered in Los Angeles some people even made the drive up from as far away as San Diego to shred and have fun on Richard’s Birthday.

Riders who were in attendance include Richard Aguayo, Bill Freeman, Bobby Carter, (Hollywood) Steve, Ed Nussbaum, Jesse Puente, Rey S., Fat Tony, Miguel, Sam, Mike C., Anthony L., Max Roth, Matthew., Erik Morales.

Many of us at the event went on the local Midnight bike ride the previous night. It always seems to be a massive event that draws hundreds of people. It involves cranking well over 20 miles around town, but is mostly a big social event. So some of us were too tired from all the pedaling the previous night and not exactly up for a full-on solid day of riding, flatland the following morning, but we did it anyway! All and all, it was a good long day of riding in a dope spot to bust out some crazy tricks and combos. At one point we had a half jam circle going on. Richard’s spot is, no joke, just around the corner from his house. So once the gates were closed, we were forced to head back to Richard’s house for the after jam BBQ session that was in full effect, and we do mean FULL effect. Many Thanks to everyone that was able to come check it out. Hope to see you again next year.

Terry Adams - NORA Cup Flatlander of the Year by Martin
As you probably already heard Terry Adams won the NORA Cup Flatland of the Year Award. Congratulations!

Did you expect to win the award and how does it feel to be THE flatland rider of the year ?

Terry: "To be honest , I really wanted to win this award. I work pretty hard to promote myself and flatland so it was a huge relief. It feels great because my goal has always been to showcase flatland in a way that everyone can enjoy it. I am honored to know that I have the respect from the other professionals in this industry. Some of my closest friends voted for me this year and that makes it that much more special. Flatland is a big part of BMX and I am super stoked that Transworld recognizes that. I want to thank all the pro riders that voted for me. I am honored to have your support."

Flatland in India - Gear BMX Shop Interview by Lisa
A few weeks ago we received an e-mail from Dipak. Dipak is a flatlander in Mumbai, India and works at India´s first BMX shop. He wrote "I mailed you guys, so that you know there is someone in India who loves the technical side of bmx. And I am even tied to the same string, on which you guys are too - Flatland". I decided to ask Dipal, and his boss Rahul some questions. Maybe that helps us to find out more about the other people on that string. You can find the interview in our articles section. Moreover Rahul and Dipak sent us some photos of the Gear BMX Shop, themselves and a BMX show they made last month.

Thanks to you guys for the insight!

The Magicflart DVD out now! by Sam
The Magicflart which is produced by: Flat-Motion is already done! It´s available at www.tiendaflatland.com.  The DVD contains the web videos in high-quality, and a bonus part with the final unedited version and some extra footage! Also included is the trip to Melgar, CFB round 2, and TF team.
We also hooked you up with 2 interviews!  One with Mathias and one with Raphael. Soon all the info of the magicflart that will take place on November 1st and 2nd will be on the website www.magicflart.com.

  What is Magicflart you ask?
Magicflart is a contest that´s based in Colombia, South America. The objectives of Magicflart is to create a spectacular contest.  As well as making it one of the most prestigious contests in the country.  The goal is to further the progress and the public recognition of the sport.
Thus having said that:
1. Magic: refers to the magic that you can see in the movements and tricks that will be incredible.
2. Flart: is the union of Flat and Art.
The first is the term that a lot of the flatland community uses to refer the sport, and the second is a term that defines perfectly the sport.

BK NYC Jam by Roy by Martin
September 20, 2008 Mike B. has stepped up and with the help of Jeff and Joe threw the BK NYC JAM. The weather was perfect for a Jam. It was a great turnout. Riders were there representing the 5 boroughs of New York City, Upstate NY, Long Island NY, Many New England States: New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Maryland as well as the Canadians who made the trip to the Big Apple. The park had enough room for everybody to spread out, which allowed for multiple riding groups to form. Even the nearby skaters were not a distraction. This was better than the Cricket players that plagued last years NYC Jam. The riding started about 11am and some continued to ride past dark in the dimly lit park. By 9pm the plans were being laid out for the nights drinking activities. Thanks to Mike B, Jeff & Joe for putting the Jam together, the sponsors: Flatland Fuel, SickChild, Animal and all who made it to New York City to ride.

Fieldcontrol 2008 article by Martin
Michael Sommer sent over an article about the Fieldcontrol contest. At the end of the article you´ll also find the results of the master class. Photos are available here.

"Let me just put it that way: this contest was an eyeopener in a lot of different meanings. First of all I gotta let you know about the organisation. There used to be a big ramppark on the contestarea but due to some politics like in Berlin with the mellowpark the streetriders lost their ramps and ground couple of years ago..."
